Event tablecloths, especially those made from premium fabrics, require special attention to maintain their quality. From washing and drying to storage and stain removal, every step in the care process is crucial. This guide provides detailed linen care instructions to help you keep your tablecloths looking their best for every event.
Why Linen Care Is Important
Proper linen care is more than just simple cleaning; it's about preserving the integrity and appearance of the fabric. Linen fabrics, such as tablecloths, table runners, or napkins, can last for years when properly cared for. Knowing how to clean your linens ensures a long-term return on your investment in these high-quality fabrics. Here's how to do it.
Linen Care Instructions for Specific Fabrics
Polyester
Polyester fabrics are easy to care for and can be washed in a regular washing machine. Remove any stains before washing and use cold water and a mild detergent. These fabrics retain their vibrant colors even after multiple washes, making them a reliable choice for events. No bleaching is required, except for white fabrics. After washing, tumble dry on medium-low heat and use the cool cycle. To prevent wrinkling, remove the fabric from the dryer immediately and iron on medium. This will ensure your tablecloth is smooth and shiny.
Sequins
Our mini sequin circles are hand-sewn onto a taffeta backing. Do not machine wash. In case of stains, clean the backing to prevent unraveling. Use a mild detergent and gently rub the stain, never rub. Rinse in cold water. For a more thorough clean, hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent. Gently spin dry, focusing on the stain. Lay the garment flat on a towel to dry or hang to dry. Use steam iron on medium heat with the sequins facing down. For best results, dry cleaning is recommended.
Spandex
Stretchy and lustrous, spandex fabrics complement your event tables and chairs perfectly, creating a sleek, modern look. Spandex fabrics are machine washable, but check for stains first. For stubborn stains, soak the fabric in a 1:1 solution of cold water and white vinegar. For red sauce or wine stains, use undiluted white vinegar. For coffee or tea stains, pre-treat with detergent for up to 30 minutes. Machine wash in cold water and tumble dry on low. Remove immediately after drying. Drain using a low setting. The fabric's stretchiness prevents wrinkling, so ironing is usually not necessary, but if necessary, do it quickly and without delay.
Satin
Our satin fabrics are ideal for a variety of uses, thanks to their superior durability and wrinkle resistance. This beautiful fabric combines the luxurious look of satin with the practical benefits of polyester, ensuring long-lasting durability. It can be machine washed on a gentle cycle in warm water and tumble dried on low without affecting its quality. If ironing is necessary, we recommend using a medium-low temperature setting to preserve its pristine appearance. This polyester satin fabric is perfect for those seeking an elegant, easy-care feel.
Jute, Burlap, and Lace
When surface cleaning, avoid soaking burlap in water. Instead, use a slightly damp towel to gently buff the surface of the fabric, turning the towel as needed. You can use a mild detergent or dissolve a small amount of baking soda in warm water before soaking the towel to enhance the cleaning effect. For an extra smooth finish, place a cushion between the iron and the burlap and iron on low heat. For best results, we recommend dry cleaning burlap.
Velvet and Flocking
To maintain the integrity of velvet or flocked fabrics, dry clean or spot clean without agitation. When spot cleaning, use a damp cloth to gently rub the stained area in one direction to avoid damaging the pile. If needed, add a small amount of mild laundry detergent. Pat with a damp cloth to remove any soap residue, then gently dry with a clean towel.
Pleated, Ruffled & Leafy
Pleated taffeta, known for its pleated quilted pattern, should be machine washed on a gentle cycle in cold or warm water, with cold water and regular detergent for best results. Wash separately from like colors, then dry on low and remove immediately to prevent wrinkling; avoid bleaching. Petal taffeta features stitched pleats and leafy embellishments and is best hand washed in cold water or on a gentle cycle, then line dried, with dry cleaning for best results. Crinkled taffeta, a shimmering fabric with a special pleated texture, can be machine washed in cold or warm water with like colors and materials. Only whites can be bleached. Tumble dry low, avoid ironing, use medium steam for best results.
Rosette Satin
This exquisite fabric features mini satin rosettes on a mesh backing. We recommend professional laundering for this delicate fabric, as dry cleaning solvents are gentle on mesh-backed loose linens and preserve the integrity of the fabric. To hand wash, mix one drop of mild liquid detergent in one cup of water. Spot clean with a damp washcloth in soapy water if needed. Lay flat or hang to dry to prevent wrinkling.
Tips for storing linens
Safe storage until use:
Keep linens in their original packaging to protect them from dust and damage. Original packaging is designed to protect fabrics from environmental factors and preserve their quality.
Optimal storage conditions:
Store your sheets in a cool, dry place to prevent damage from sunlight and moisture. Prolonged exposure to sunlight and moisture can weaken the fibers and cause fading.
Use a protective cover during shipping:
Protect your sheets from dust and damage during shipping. Using a protective cover, such as the original packaging, will ensure your tablecloths arrive at their destination in top condition, free from stains and tears.
General linen care
Bleach use:
Bleach is harmless to white linens, but is not recommended for colored linens. Avoid mixing dark or bright colored tablecloths with white tablecloths. Using bleach on colored linens can cause fading and damage the integrity of the fabric.
Color care:
Our colored sheets are designed to retain their original color even after multiple uses and washings, as long as bleach is not used. Proper care will ensure your sheets stay bright and retain their original hues.
Color separation:
Washing tablecloths of similar colors together, like normal laundry, will prevent fading. Doing so will prevent dark tablecloths from staining light-colored ones.
Avoid fabric softeners:
They can leave oily stains and make linens look limp. Fabric softeners also build up on fabrics, making them less breathable and less absorbent.
Treat stains immediately:
Treat and wash stains promptly to prevent them from becoming permanent. Treating them immediately increases the chances of completely removing the stain and keeping your sheets looking fresh and shiny.
Drying and ironing
Avoid heat:
Use a low temperature setting on your dryer to avoid shrinkage. High temperatures can damage fibers, causing them to shrink and lose their shape.
Drying and ironing:
Remove your tablecloth from the dryer while it is still warm to reduce wrinkles. When ironing, use a low temperature setting if necessary. After ironing, please fold and store properly to maintain its fresh appearance.
